Subject outline

In this subject students develop knowledge, understanding and experience of river environments in order to undertake safe living and travel. Students examine natural and cultural history, land management, hydrology and ecology directly relevant to selected river environments of South Eastern Australia. Students develop technical expertise of paddling, and experiential and interpretative knowledge of river environments as preparation for peer leadership.

Intended Learning Outcomes

01. Develop an environmental understanding and localised knowledge of selected river environments.
02. Develop reflective and analytical skills relating to personal and group experiences in river environments.
03. Establish technical paddling competence on moving water (Grade 2).
04. Perform self-rescue, basic rescue of others, and equipment recovery on moving water (Grade 2).
