In this subject students develop the knowledge and skills required to undertake an extended journey in a remote natural environment and consolidate their outdoor education journey skills, environmental knowledge, and introductory outdoor leadership skills. Theory and practical work encourages the development of safe practice, reasonable judgment, understanding of self, care for others and the environment, sound preparation, and the ability to learn from experience.

01. Demonstrate safety, knowledge and skills specific to a remote natural environment, through a focus on navigation, fauna and flora interpretation, leadership and group management, minimal impact practices, health and hygiene, first aid in remote settings, communications and weather interpretation.
02. Research an aspect of cultural and natural history, ecology and/or environmental management and present findings to a group.
03. Further develop outdoor living and travelling skills through preparation and participation in a continuous extended journey in a relatively remote natural setting.
