Subject outline

In this subject, you will develop fundamental knowledge and skills required to care for patients in acute cardiac nursing contexts. This subject will cover topics such as electrocardiography, arrhythmia interpretation and management, the pathophysiology, assessment, and management of acute coronary syndromes, and acute respiratory failure. You will also be expected to complete a range of clinical competencies through this course. At the completion of this subject you will be able to make independent judgements; develop relevant nursing plans, implement and evaluate practice, and function effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the acute cardiac setting. Throughout this subject you will be provided the opportunity to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, specialised clinical proficiency, and effective communication skills. The subject is delivered via a blended online mode comprising of learning modules and a limited number of on-campus workshops and supported by an appropriate clinical practicum.
