Subject outline
In this subject, you will focus on the care of the women and her fetus/baby with additional needs due to high acuity and maternity emergency situations, for example, breech birth, PPH, cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia. This subject will build on prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the normal birth process to further develop clinical skill and the ability to think critically. You will develop theoretical knowledge, through research and enquiry learning methods, around acute and emergency situations as well as gain skills in situational management, multi-disciplinary collaborative relationships and leadership, whilst incorporating woman centred care and therapeutic communication. You will be provided with clinical experience and/or simulated events which will prepare them to recognise and respond effectively in acute and emergency situations.
