Subject outline
In this subject students will examine the legal environment for, and some of the practices arising from, the cross-border supply by private enterprises of goods, services and direct investment. Particular areas covered include an introduction to legal systems and the international source of law; international law affecting contracts for the sales of goods, international carriage of goods and payment for cross-border sales; forms of business structure and investment for commercial presence in foreign markets; international economic treaties and organisations as they affect private transactions, in particular WTO treaties, and finally the settlement of disputes arising from cross-border business activity, with emphasis on international commercial arbitration.
