LLH4RMS is a 30 CP core subject in the coursework component t of Honours in all disciplines offered in the Department of Languages and Linguistics (Asian Studies, Chinese, French, Greek, Japanese, Indonesian, Italian, Latin-American Studies/Spanish, Linguistics), whether in area studies, language studies or linguistics. The subject supports students in refining their skills in the genre of academic writing and in developing the necessary planning tools and research skills for the writing of an Honours thesis. It requires regular participation and engagement with the learning activities and in-class discussions, as well as independent work outside of the contact hours.

Intended Learning Outcomes

01. Critically examine the problems involved in the study of Asian societies and culture, or European societies and culture, or Latin American societies and culture, and or linguistics.
02. Provide students with skills necessary for the completion of their Honours theses. This involves: searching relevant sources and data (e.g. library skills); formulating research questions; preparing and implementing a project; and writing up the project in academically acceptable forms.
03. Actively engage in the Honours research method class discussions, which will stimulate ideas, foster independent thinking, as well as train research presentation skills.
