Legal Process, Methods and Institutions introduces students to the study of law, the core legal institutions and sources of law in the Australia. The subject places the study of law in the context of legal practice, legal theory and issues of justice. Students develop essential skills for studying law including case analysis, legal problem solving, legal research and written and oral communication. The subject examines what is law and explores both adversarial and non-adversarial approaches to dispute resolution. Topics include the history of law making in Australia, the doctrine of precedent and the origins of legal reasoning, indigenous law and its relationship with the common law, the legal profession, legal community centres and current problems of access to justice.
