Subject outline

This subject introduces students to the role of law and legal institutions in driving, limiting and shaping processes of globalisation. It is structured around three modules: Module One introduces principal legal institutions such as the state and the corporation, as well as multilateral bodies such as World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organisation. Module Two examines law as regulating various global flows and phenomena, such as migration, trade, investment, climate change, etc. Module Three investigates legal efforts to address global inequalities, including human rights, aid and legal empowerment of the poor. While the subject equips students with a broad and critical understanding of law in globalisation, students also have an opportunity to pursue more in-depth analysis of a particular topic of interest, through a guided research assessment.
