In this subject students locate their knowledge of the professional practice of teaching within the context of the legal and ethical environment in which they, as teachers, will operate. Students will develop an understanding of the sources of law and of legal and non-legal obligations, including ethics, with which they must comply as teaching professionals. Students will develop an advanced understanding of the legal and ethical obligation to maintain their skills and knowledge and to maintain professional networks. Students will engage in a series of case studies through which they will critically analyse the application of legal and non-legal principles and practices to the physical and psychological safety of students and others in the school environment, the safe, responsible and ethical use of IT in learning and teaching, responsible and confidential interactions with the school community and the processes, limitations and consequences of risk analysis.
