Subject outline
This subject focuses on the interaction of law/regulation and institutions relevant to low-carbon development. It covers market-based regulatory approaches such as emissions trading and renewable portfolio standards, widely applied fiscal incentives and taxes, and direct regulation. An introduction is provided to the primary large and small-scale financing techniques relevant to renewable energy, energy efficiency and other low-carbon projects. Comparative case studies are drawn from countries including Australia, China, US and from within the EU. An integrated, contextual analysis of legally related factors driving global low-carbon development is provided, focusing on minimising costs to businesses and consumers and maximising commercial/scale-up opportunities.
