Subject outline

This subject introduces students to the foundational theories and principles of Restorative Justice. To this end, it explores the practice of restorative justice from the state, national and international perspectives . It also takes into account the experiences of various stakeholders in the system, such as state representatives, victims, offenders, indigenous persons, minorities and those from non-English speaking backgrounds, with a view to assessing the extent to which it fits the needs of different participants. In this subject, students will also explore the broad application of restorative justice across the spectrum of the criminal justice system, from pre-sentence conferencing to inmate misconduct.
