Subject outline

Governments have a range of inquiry mechanisms available to them to examine systemic problems, deaths or wrong doing. These include Royal Commissions, coronial inquests, parliamentary committee inquires and law reform commission inquiries. In this subject students will examine how these processes operate and how they differ from each other and differ from court-based proceedings. You will evaluate the role these mechanisms play in Australian legal and policy development and reform, and assess their effectiveness in contributing to such development and reform.
