In this subject students will commence acquiring intermediate knowledge of Japanese. The subject is designed to help students build competence in speaking, reading and writing. Building on the knowledge gained in JPN1002, this subject brings the total number of characters learnt to approximately 306. It is recommended that students take AST2MMA with this subject.

Intended Learning Outcomes

01. To learn to interact in Japanese. Specifically to speak in Japanese using some preliminary intermediate grammar such as: advice giving, expressing desires, hearsay, the potential form and the like.
02. To learn to write and read up to 306 characters as well as read and write complex sentences and short paragraphs.
03. Participation in pairs and groups which contributes to a cohesive group dynamic and facilitates learning the target language.
04. Integration of discrete learning - the four components of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, to produce a new meaningful whole
05. To acquire socio-linguistic and socio-cultural competencies
