Subject outline

This subject is available to students who have already attained working competence in spoken and written Italian. Students are able to extend their understanding of the structures and usage of the language, as well as their understanding of Italian culture and society. Particular attention is devoted to La Trobe's "Sustainability Thinking" Essential, through the study of Italian written and audio-visual texts that explore this theme as it relates to environment, society, politics and culture in contemporary Italy. In this subject students continue working towards attaining level B2 competence in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

01. Communicate in written Italian with clarity, cohesion, logic, structure and accuracy in a range of contexts and on a range of topics, deducing and following appropriate structural patterns
02. Understand and analyse Italian factual and literary texts of some complexity including, in particular, those related to the theme of sustainability
03. Write critically about a range of topics including, in particular, those related to the theme of sustainability, using appropriate linguistic registers and vocabulary, and displaying an understanding of central issues in contemporary Italian life
04. Work with a partner or as part of a team to perform oral tasks involving critical engagement with Italian texts that explore issues of sustainability, formulating ideas and opinions with precision and relating these to the contributions of other students.
