Subject outline

In this subject, you will explore some of the most interesting questions under discussion in the Humanities and Social Sciences today. Together, we will examine human culture, identity, diversity and uniqueness to better understand what it means to be human. The subject covers a range of topics that contemplate current and historical human narratives, considering a spectrum of humanity from our relationships with animals to the role of technology and artificial intelligence in our cyber-bound futures. The interdisciplinary nature of this subject allows questions about humanity to be viewed through multiple disciplinary lenses, including Sociology, English, Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies, History, Philosophy and Politics. The subject is delivered in small group seminars that allow you to connect with fellow students and work closely with a dedicated member of academic staff. We also train you in vital academic skills # such as critical thinking, effective research methods and the craft of academic writing # all of which are necessary for your success at university.
