Subject outline
Do we consider ourselves leaders and in what way do research and leadership go hand in hand? Students enrolled in 'The Emerging Researcher' will be introduced to the concept of leadership and the practices of research. The subject includes completing leadership training, formulating a research question that has relevance to students' own lives and interests, and searching for and critically assessing information. Throughout the subject, students will have opportunities to learn more about the research undertaken at La Trobe and meet and work with top staff and students. While familiarising students with the basics of research(ing) in an academic and non-academic context, this subject also introduces students to a range of transferable leadership theories. Completion of the first stage of the La Trobe Leadership Award Module (LTLA) as part of this subject will partly qualify students to apply for a La Trobe Leadership Award at the end of the year.
