Subject outline
The practice of 'patient-centred care' , defined as engaging a client as an active participant in their own care, has been shown to result in improved client satisfaction and health outcomes. This subject provides Audiology students with an opportunity for acquiring skills and a working understanding of what it means to work with clients in an holistic, empathetic and patient-centred manner. Students will learn basic counselling skills as well as have the opportunity to reflect critically on how they might engage with clients in the future. By virtue of the subject, much of the teaching will consist of experiential learning activities. The subject provides the foundations for critical reflective practice for students continuing on with Masters degree studies in the Audiology profession.
