In this subject students are introduced to OH&S principles through a study of models, trends and relevant legislation. Topics address how changing work demands, patterns, structures and technology impact on worker health. Legal and ethical issues in OH&S, as well as workers' compensation and rehabilitation, are introduced. Dangerous goods, hazardous substances, privacy legislation, professional roles and ethics are presented within risk management and systems frameworks. This subject utilises online learning through LMS.

01. Critically analyse and synthesise and apply complex theoretical concepts and models of health and disease.
02. Investigate, analyse and critically evaluate the impact of current and emerging work patterns, on the Australian workforce, and the related complex impacts and interactions of work demands and work arrangements on workers' health.
03. Investigate and critically evaluate the complex influence of technology on job design and organisational aspects of the workplace.
04. Critically analyse, apply and appraise the essence and principles of Australian work-health related policy. In particular to develop expert judgment regarding legislation concerning occupational health and safety, accident compensation, hazardous substances and dangerous goods, and equal opportunity and privacy.
05. Critically reflect upon, demonstrate expert judgment, analyse and apply boundaries regarding axioms of ethical positions that underpin professional decision-making and practice within an OH&S context. Demonstrate adaptability and responsibility in understanding of professional ethics.
06. Critically analyse, synthesise and integrate the application of complex holistic models of occupational health, prevention and rehabilitation in a real world context.
07. Critically analyse, synthesise and integrate the practical application of the ICF levels of functioning and disability to patterns of occupational disease, injury and sickness absence.
