Subject outline

In this subject, students undertake a period of 20 days teaching in their method area(s) within Years 7-9 in a Secondary setting, or as a generalist teacher in Years 5 -6 in a Primary setting in Australian schools under the supervision of a qualified teacher. They engage in self-evaluation, reflection, formal and informal discussion and consultation regarding teaching practice and associated skills with their mentor. Students are expected to produce lesson-plans, which reflect an ability to articulate clear learning intentions, success criteria, procedural steps, assessment and evaluation procedures along with relevant links to curriculum documents used in the middle years of learning, including Australian Curriculum and AusVELS, for example. These lesson plans will be used as part of the assessment for this subject and should be kept as a record of teaching. Students must obtain a Working With Children clearance before embarking on teaching practice in Victoria. For placements outside Victoria, local requirements apply.
