Subject outline

Professional Experience Primary C consists of 20 days placement. While undertaking this professional Experience, students are involved in one-to-one and small group teaching, and finally taking the whole class for a lesson designed, developed and delivered by themselves in collaboration with the mentor teacher. Student involvement in the class provides opportunities for familiarisation with the roles and expectations of teachers, the patterns of classroom interactions, classroom organization and management practices enabling learning contexts to be modified. Students undertake general lessons across a range of curriculum areas and are responsible for classroom management in collaboration with the mentor teacher. Professional experience and the role played by the mentor teacher are crucial in the overall development of the teaching skills and understandings of the pre-service teacher. Pre-service teachers for Professional Experience Primary C will be assessed as Readiness to Teach . Professional Experience is a Compulsory Professional Requirement.
