This subject is designed to develop a strong knowledge base for pre-service teachers in the areas of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in visual arts and design education for secondary students in the senior years. The subject provides pre-service teachers with a firm understanding of the continuum of the visual arts and design curriculum across learning stages. The subject will emphasise planning sequences of learning and provide opportunities to examine complex learning theories to better understand contemporary concepts and issues in visual arts and design education. These theoretical dimensions will platform the skills and knowledge needed to apply effective curriculum, assessment and pedagogy in visual arts and design for the senior secondary context.
