Subject outline

In this subject students will investigate real life tasks and challenges and use design and technology processes in order to create solutions. Working with the new Victorian Curriculum students will have the opportunity to plan and complete a suitable application of tasks to school based learning, through the development of practical Design Briefs. Topics covered in this subject include design skills, understanding good design, design processes, working with Comic Life software , developing understandings and practical implementation strategies for STEM introduction into educational settings, evaluating products in terms of design and utility, teaching design and technology and evaluating OHS issues in schools.

Intended Learning Outcomes

01. Analyse a situation, demonstrate a process for developing a design brief associated with addressing a need within a real context.
02. Identify the skills, processes and structures which need to be supported in order for school students to safely engage in the processes associated with design, creativity and technology.
03. Demonstrate a working knowledge of how to design, develop and implement a series of 5 Design Briefs, based on ICT (Materials, Information and/or Systems ability to reflect on the process and evaluate the effectiveness of these Design Briefs for student learning.
04. Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of a design as a form of interdisciplinary learning through reasoning and thinking skills associated with creativity, design principles and processes that are essential for education in the 21st century.
05. Plan and manage practical applications assisting students with different ways of thinking, problem solving and communicating using a range of technologies to plan, analyse, evaluate and present their work.
06. Ability to interpret the relevant design and technology curriculum AusVELS - interdisciplinary documents and design appropriate Design Briefs
