Subject outline
Recent trends in the purpose and function of higher education have resulted in a radical shift in the styles of teaching delivery that can best support student success, satisfaction and retention. This subject focuses on developing a reflective approach to teaching and supporting student learning in higher education through innovative teaching approaches. Through considering feedback via a range of lenses, participants reflect on their current teaching practice and ways to improve their teaching skills. Participants engage in a peer observation session of their teaching to develop a set of theory and practice-informed classroom approaches to enhance student learning and engagement. Given that assessment is a major driver of student learning, the subject also focusses on principles of effective assessment feedback and gives participants the opportunity to apply these to their practice.
