Subject outline

In this subject students focus on the role the teacher plays in facilitating a productive classroom environment, specifically classroom management. Students will evaluate a range of theoretical approaches suitable for avoiding or handling inappropriate student behaviour with the aim of developing student responsibility, rather than obedience. Students will have the opportunity to learn techniques recommended by some of these approaches. Research examining the factors inhibiting teachers from implementing best practice will be examined, as will the areas of teacher stress and coping. Students will encounter and consider a range of theoretical and practical issues from an historical and current perspective.
