Subject outline
Do you think that young people learn by playing immersive online games, or does learning only occur during formal schooling? This raises the question of how young people develop and learn, how this changes from the infant years to adolescence, the role of families, and the influence of social and cultural contexts. In this subject students engage with theories and perspectives of learning in contemporary educational contexts. Theories of physical, cognitive and emotional development will be considered. In addition, this subject takes into account how contemporary economic, social, and cultural factors influence the lives and experiences of young people, and the role and importance of parents and carers.
