Subject outline

We understand education as a way to change society for the better. Today, education takes place in many different forms and spaces. These can include formal spaces like schools, art galleries, museums, and workplace training, or informally through social media, activism and public discourse. Technology disrupts where and how education is delivered and experienced. Education is not always about sitting in rows facing the teacher. So how can education change things for the better? And does it always succeed? In this subject students will engage with theory, policy and practice discourses on access and inclusion in education. Students will investigate contemporary approaches to engaging with individual educational needs and aspirations of all young people in a diverse society. Students will understand how the institution of school is becoming a responsive community resource.
