In this subject, students explore the history, role, key debates and considerations of the Humanities and social sciences including; global citizenship education, cultural studies, history, geography, business and economics in primary school programs. They develop and demonstrate the ability to plan, implement and evaluate Humanities programs for primary education, with a focus on The Victorian Curriculum F-10 and the Australian Curriculum frameworks. Students demonstrate and reflect on knowledge and appreciation of contemporary social, environmental, economic and cultural issues and of their roles as Humanities and citizenship educators within a complex and changing environment.

01. Describe and critically reflect on the goals, objectives and futures of Humanities studies.
02. Appraise and compare relevant curricula and resources, including ICT, with local, State, national and global focuses.
03. Develop effective, challenging and inclusive Primary Humanities education teaching and learning sequences, incorporating inquiry/investigative, participant and cooperative pedagogical approaches.
04. Demonstrate strategies for literacy and numeracy development to support student learning in the Humanities.
05. Use curriculum assessment and reporting knowledge to design a range of targeted strategies to assess student learning in Primary Humanities.
06. Evaluate the effectiveness of Primary programs in Humanities and citizenship education and develop strategies to improve student learning.
07. Synthesise, articulate and justify your knowledge of and approaches to teaching Humanities and citizenship, the role of ongoing professional learning as a primary Humanities educator, and your role as an educator in this field.
