Subject outline

Students are introduced to a range of world changing ideas in science, from initial concept to gradual adoption to mainstream understanding. Key scientific advances in agriculture, medicine, technology, energy and conservation are overviewed in the context of their global impact. The ethical considerations of scientific advancement are analysed and applied to real world situations as is the reporting and communicating of scientific information. Students will undertake an inquiry investigation and write a report on a selected field of scientific research and development. Students will also maintain a digital journal detailing the development of their scientific thinking.
