Subject outline

Students are introduced to critical thinking as concept and as practice. Students are encouraged to engage with differing viewpoints, question received knowledge and to recognise the difference between lower and higher order thinking. Opportunities are provided for the development, transference and application of metacognitive thinking, critical analysis and creative problem solving. Using the concept of World View, students interrogate their own identity positions and analyse how these social, environmental and biological factors impact their perspectives. Through a range of learning tasks, students develop capacity for reasoning, analysis and reflection. Assessments include a peer reviewed reflective journal and a short research essay.
