Subject outline

In this subject you will learn about the formation of the primary dentition, eruption, exfoliation and replacement with the permanent dentition. Commencing with the embryology of the head and neck, other topics include tooth morphology (which describes the unique three-dimensional structure of both the primary and secondary teeth including their radiographic appearance) plus saliva and the salivary glands, (which provide both an anatomical and physiological element within the subject that is fundamental to the science of Cariology). This subject also provides a foundation for further discussions on the ethical principles in oral health care and dental material science.
