Subject outline

This subject is designed to introduce undergraduate business students from all disciplines to the nature of accounting and finance and their role in business. Accounting covers the recording of financial transactions and reporting on the financial health and performance of an individual or business. Finance is concerned with raising the funds required to acquire the assets of a business as well as managing the expenditure and investment of these funds. In this subject, you will learn the ethical requirements underpinning financial statements, how to compile and interpret financial statements and understand sources of financing. Additionally, you will understand a budget and its importance to the business as well as the information required to make strategic planning and pricing decisions all from a non-accountant and non-finance user's perspective.
