Subject outline

Hearing aid systems are a major component of the audiological management of hearing impairment. In this subject, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the styles, components and electroacoustic characteristics of hearing aids. You will develop the skills necessary to select an appropriate hearing aid and/or assistive listening device based on a client's hearing loss, lifestyle and communication needs. Through hands-on workshops, you will learn how to take ear impressions, modify a selected device and verify its fitting in a clinical setting. Your learning in this subject will be assessed through written exams and assignments.

02. Integrate information on the electroacoustic and technical features of hearing aids and apply this knowledge to generate sound clinical hypotheses.
03. Synthesise specialist knowledge to create and modify high quality earmould/shells, to improve clinical outcomes.
04. Critically design, evaluate and review the measurement of hearing aid and device performance to ensure sound clinical decision making and trouble-shooting.
05. Integrate and consolidate information on commonly used assistive listening devices to generate sound clinical hypotheses.
