Subject outline

In this subject we study art and travel in Europe from 1700 to the present. By its very nature, the material is interdisciplinary, drawing on the disciplines of literature (travel-writing) and geography as well as art history and history, and the lectures and seminars will also discuss the wider issues raised by tourism. It will introduce students to concepts of place-based research, reception theory, and sites, routes and museums of significance in Europe.

01. Individually and in groups assess topics in European art and history
02. Individually students learn key research skills in conjunction with the library. They learn how to carry out research at a tertiary level, to reference and cite sources and to compile a bibliography
03. Learn to analyse and distinguish between a range of material relating to travel including maps, travel writing, and art and objects.
04. Learn to problem solve and develop skills in place-based research, across a range of disciplines and learn to carry out visual analysis of images
05. Learn to research and present on a given topic using PowerPoint and develop communication skills
