Subject outline

In this subject, students will investigate each sports turf in turn, examining the rules that may affect its preparation, the tools used to quantify surface quality, and the benchmarks that exist. Additional topics taught include: FIFA standards, pre-game safety audits, measuring turf quality, liability and insurance issues. This subject will also provide students with insight into the demands on Turf Managers from high level events (e.g. tournaments, international games) and non-sport events (e.g. concerts). The practical sessions will assist students to apply their theory in practice, and will involve visits to premier turf facilities to measure surface parameters. Students will undertake discussion with sports Turf Managers during their practical sessions to put their learning in a real world context.
