PLANT PESTS AND PATHOGENS

AGR2PPP

2020

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

This subject explores the current frontiers of research and development of a range of commercially relevant plant pests and diseases. You will learn the underpinning theory about disease and pest identification using a mix of traditional and modern identification techniques. Techniques to assess plant damage will be taught and practiced. Interactions between the host and the pest or pathogen will be explored. Best practice sustainable control measures that involve integrating information on ecological principles, life and disease cycles and the influences of environmental conditions will be studied, as well as integrated management techniques themselves. This subject will enable you to specialize in areas of particular commercial interest, for example crops, pastures, wine-grapes or turf.
