EQUINE LOCOMOTION AND EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY
AGR2ELP
2020
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
This subject introduces basic inheritance and genetics for athleticism, and equine biomechanical locomotion parameters in the horse. Knowledge of the physiological and biochemical processes involved in exercise and athletic conditioning and the effects on the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems are also examined. An understanding of the limiting physiological processes in the equine athlete will be utilised to examine the major consequences of exercise, which go beyond a horses ability to maintain homeostasis.
