Subject outline

This subject is aligned with the Sustainability Thinking Essential. In this subject students will be introduced to various elements of Indigenous Australia. Students will study a broad range of issues of relevance to contemporary Aborigines and Torres Strait Islander people. There will be a particular emphasis on the Indigenous topics of Australia, in addition, students will gain an understanding of regional variation throughout Australia. Issues discussed include cultural continuity and differences, identity, self-representation, spirituality, family, gender, land, politics, law, economics, education, health, history, art and music. Students intending to sub-major in Aboriginal Studies are strongly advised to take this subject.
