Subject outline

This subject will assist students to develop and interpret foundational knowledge related to the scientific basis of cancer. The focus will be on acquiring advanced levels of knowledge of the pathophysiology of cancer and carcinogenesis, and the principles of cure, control and palliation. The principles of cancer treatment modalities and decision-making determinants related to both solid and haematological malignancies across the disease trajectory will be examined. Chemotherapy, bone marrow and peripheral stem cell transplantation, biotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery will be presented as core treatments. Students will be provided with opportunities to examine issues and controversies surrounding health promotion and education.
