Subject outline
In this unit studemts explore current philosophies in the education of deaf and hearing impaired students, including oral education, total communication and a bilingual/bicultural approach. These different education methodologies are discussed from an international perspective. The impact of educational practices on a linguistic and cultural minority are examined from both western and non-western view points. This will be related to the development of curricula and pedagogical principles. Students may choose to focus on primary, secondary or tertiary levels.
