Health Science course transfers

Semester 1, 2019 internal course transfer applications for Health Science courses are now closed (except for Bachelor of Health Sciences HBHS/HBHSB).

Semester 1, 2019 internal course transfer applications for Health Science in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry (HZHSDD) are open until 2 December 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

What you need to know

For mid-year course transfers into the Bachelor of Health Science, it is important to note the following:

  • There are no credit point requirements to apply for transfer

For end-of-year course transfer applications into any Health Science course, it is important to note the following:

  • You cannot apply for an internal course transfer in Health Sciences until the end of the academic year (i.e., mid-year entry is not possible),
  • You need to have completed 120 credit points to apply for an internal course transfer (Social Work, Dentistry and Oral Health excluded), and
  • If you have received advanced standing (i.e., recognition of prior learning) for a Core First Year subject that the score you received for the subject deemed 'equivalent' at your prior institution will be used in the WAM calculation.

The Internal Course Transfer Data document [PDF 246KB] outlines internal course transfer data from the end of each academic year. This data is indicative only and reflects WAM information over a number of years.

If you are currently enrolled at La Trobe University in a Health Sciences course and are not due to complete your course by the end of the calendar year, you must apply via this internal course transfer process. You cannot apply for a transfer via VTAC or UAC as an offer will not be made to you.

Once you have determined your category, you will need to follow the instructions for your particular category. Please ensure that you:

  • Read the Internal Transfer Guidelines
  • Complete the correct application forms

There are three categories of internal course transfer and you will need to determine which you fit into.  A description of each category is listed, as well as tables where you can find the specific course transfer you are seeking to ensure you meet the category requirements.

Students in Category C will be considered for internal transfer based on the Weighted Average Mark (WAM) achieved in all six of the core subjects completed in the first year of their course (HBS1HBA, HBS1HBB, HLT1IPP, HLT1RAE, PHE1IDH, PHE1SDH). Further information

Students who completed the core first year prior to 2014 will have their WAM derived from the completion of six of the previously completed seven core first year subjects (HBS1HBA, HLT1IPA, HLT1PHW, PHE1IDH, HBS1HBB, HLT1IPB and PHE1SDH).

Students applying for transfer must normally have completed at least 120 credit points of subjects at La Trobe University. Results from previous studies in which credit has been granted and equates to any of the seven core first year subjects, will be considered as part of the transfer process. Part‐time students would normally still be required to complete 120 credit points.

Do not apply via VTAC or UAC as current La Trobe University students will not be considered for an offer via either of these methods. The Internal Course Transfer process is the only way in which you will be considered for an offer.

How do I apply?

Complete the online Application for course transfer form.

Make sure you indicate: up to three course(s) for which you are applying and order of preference (students may apply for a maximum of three (3) Core First Year courses);

Other important information

If successful with your transfer, and eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the HECS & Student Amenities Fee forms online.

If you’re an International student, you MUST consult with an advisor in La Trobe International (LTI) and obtain approval from LTI prior to submitting an application. If you are a sponsored student your sponsor must also approve your course transfer.

If credit was awarded for any of the core first year subjects within your current course, please include a certified copy of an Academic Transcript from your previous Institution (excluding La Trobe). This will be used to recalculate your Weighted Average Mark which is used to rank your application.

If successful with a transfer, credit will automatically be awarded for successful completion of the core first year subjects and an elective.

Ensure you re‐enrol in the course you are currently studying by the published cut off date to ensure that you can study in the next academic year and to avoid the late re‐enrolment fee.

Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application before the end of the year. We may continue to make additional offers up until the commencement of semester 1 with successful students being notified as offers are made.
