Subject outline

Organisations today are employing ERP systems for developing customer-centric business strategies and integration of business processes in accounting, finance, human resources, sales and marketing. In this subject, you will be provided with an overview of enterprise-wide computing and integrated enterprise systems concepts. You will be introduced to the skills needed to become an ERP consultant and have the opportunity to develop your capacity to analyse and reengineer business processes based on ERP life cycle using well known ERP tools like SAP S/4 HANA. You will critique business process re-engineering strategies of organisations in the context of ERP systems. Case studies and SAP S/4 HANA based software packages will be used to provide you with hands-on experience.

Activities:
1. Explain nature and scope of ERP systems for business process re-engineering of an integrated business enterprise 2. Elaborate and Critique benefits of ERP systems in context of business process re-engineering using real world case studies 3. Explain why almost all large organisations worldwide (and increasing numbers of medium-size organisations) have adopted Enterprise Systems for business process re-engineering 4. Explain the type of technologies which are needed for the design and development of ERP Systems 5. Describe the different roles that firms play in supporting these systems 6. Describe the input and output capabilities of ERP systems 7. Explain how ERP software manages processes (broadly)

Evaluate organizational size, complexity issues in design of an ERP system 3. Evaluate strategies in planning an ERP implementation 4. Activities:
1. Explain business processes in context of materials management, order processing, accounting and finance, sales and distribution 2. Familiarize with data entry procedures used by SAP 3. Explain the specific meaning of commonly used terms in SAP (e.g. plant, warehouse) 4. Familiarize with document-handling procedures in SAP 5. Implement materials management, and Controlling : Cost Centre modules
