MANAGING COMPLEXITY IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

PTY5MCP

2018

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

Complexity characterises things with many factors or components in an intricate and interconnected arrangement. Using various healthcare settings and scenarios as a backdrop (including critical care, rehabilitation, the first contact practitioner and the compensable patient), this blended learning subject will explore issues of complexity associated with persons with healthcare needs, caseloads, teams, services and/or wider organizations. Students will extend their knowledge and skills related to the role of the physiotherapist as an independent practitioner and member of the wider healthcare team. Students will have ongoing opportunities to apply the clinical reasoning model that draws on the WHO International Classification of Functioning framework, a biopsychosocial approach to health care and evidence based practice. Self learning guides and online resources will complement workshops, practical classes and tutorials that are scheduled in block mode.
