Subject outline

The aim of this subject is to integrate material developed in earlier subjects and reinforce these concepts through the undertaking of a project in machine automation. It introduces project management, quality systems and reliability engineering. The subject uses the project as a vehicle to teach the project management in a practical sense, as well as introducing total quality control, quality design functionality, and statistical analysis for process control. Reliability engineering is introduced as a component of the subject, along with life cycle management. Students are given an opportunity to demonstrate practical project management skills by maintaining detailed documentation of the project work, including calculations, which culminates in a formal report.
