Volunteer and meet new friends

Our international student volunteering programs give you the chance to meet new friends while helping out in your local neighbourhood. Our volunteering activities include working at local festivals, helping people learn computer skills, and talking with elderly citizens.

Homestay in Australia

You can experience a homestay with an Australian family through our partnership with the Australian Homestay Network. You’ll be close to the University, have the chance to practice your English, and get local knowledge about your new hometown.

To sign up, visit the Australian Homestay Network website.

Activities in Darebin

Our Melbourne Campus is part of the Darebin community; the Darebin Overseas Students Association (DOSA) gives you the chance to get involved in activities like the annual Festival of Light and Friendship, the Darebin Kite Festival, Carols by Candlelight, and the Civic Welcome for International Students. You’ll also be able to access the Ozone Lounge – an international student space at Northland Youth Centre on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

To get the latest information on DOSA activities, join the DOSA Facebook page or the Northland Youth Centre Facebook page.

Opportunities for female students

If you’re a female international student, we can sponsor you to gain leadership skills through the Victorian Immigrant Women’s Refugee Coalition.

To find out how to get involved, visit the VIWRC website.

Find friends in the city

In the city centre, you can find The Couch – a space where international students go to relax, meet new friends and find out what’s on.

Find out more at The Couch website.
