Returning after a deferral

Published 12/12/2013 11.17 AM Updated 11/12/2023 09.21 AM

I'm due to return to study after completing my deferral. What do I have to do to begin my studies? What do I do if I don't receive any information?

We will send an invitation (to the person email address that you have recorded under the Contacts section in StudentOnLine) for you to accept your offer and return from deferral.

You will hear from us before the teaching period you are due to retun in (e.g. by June if you're due to return for Semester 2/Term 4 or by the end of October if you're returning for Semester 1/Term 2). You can then follow the instructions in the email to accept your offer.

Contact ASK La Trobe if you have any questions or if you don't receive the email.

Graduate research candidates

If your request to defer your commencement date is approved, we will email you an updated offer letter and you must accept your revised offer by the date outlined in the letter.

Once you have accepted your revised offer, you don’t need to do anything else to begin your studies. When your new commencement date is reached the Graduate Research School will enrol you in your course and email you confirmation of your enrolment within five business days.

If you wish to defer your candidature further you’ll need to apply to defer your commencement date. If you decide you no longer wish to take up your offer, contact the Graduate Research School (GRS) prior to your commencement date.
