Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Students who commenced their course of study or transferred to a new course after January 1, 2021 must supply their Unique Student Identifier (USI) to La Trobe before the first census date for their course. Failure to do so may result in you having to pay full fees for your course.
We calculate your fees by multiplying the:
- study load for a subject (based on 120 credit points a year for a full study load), by the
- subject's contribution rate (depends on its band and the year you started your course).
We then round down to the nearest $1.
Example:
If the study load for a subject is 0.125 and its contribution rate is $8,948:
0.125 x $8,948 = $1118.500 rounded down to $1118.00
New fee structures for Commonwealth-supported students from January 2021
On 19 October 2020, the Job-ready Graduates Package passed in parliament. The package includes changes to Commonwealth-supported student contribution amounts (see Table 1 below), and provides some opportunities for students in regional Australia.
As advised by the Australian government, the new contribution amounts take effect in the 2021 academic year. 'Grandfathering' arrangements are in place for students who would see an increase in their contribution amounts. Under these arrangements, students who started their course before 1 January 2021, will have their student contribution amount remain as they were under the previous arrangements (with existing rates being indexed by CPI each year); see Table 2. If you are enrolled in units that will see your student contribution amount lowered, your student contributions will be lowered in line with the 2021 figures. Note that 'grandfathering' does not apply to students who deferred their studies before 1 January 2021.
If you are enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) you will be charged a Student Contribution Amount for each enrolled unit of study. The Student Contribution Amount will vary depending on the unit's Field of Education and Contribution Band rather than the degree in which you are enrolled. Your student contribution pays a proportion of the cost of your course and the remainder of your cost is funded by the Commonwealth Grant Scheme. These amounts are reviewed and set each year by the Commonwealth Government.
If you are unsure if you are enrolled in a CSP please refer to your letter of offer to confirm the fee place you have been offered. It will say CSP if you have been admitted to this category.
