Learn to Swim

Our Learn to Swim programs are available to our staff, students and the wider community.

This program is built on the importance of water safety.

  • Learn to Swim (L2S with LTS) classes cater for primary school-aged children from beginners through to pre-squad level.
  • Adult swimming lessons are available for beginners through to advanced swimmers.
  • Water safety program caters to school bookings and focuses on personal safety in and around the water and how to react when someone needs assistance.

Learn to Swim programs

The Learn to Swim program follows a series of six awards that show your child’s development as they work towards mastering the competitive swimming strokes. All levels also include a water safety component that is reinforced on a weekly basis. All children will receive certificates as they complete and progress through each of the award levels.

This program includes:

  • experienced and qualified instructors
  • term based swimming lessons
  • complimentary swimming assessment
  • free pool access before and after the lesson for the enrolled student and their parents
  • certificates awarded to all students
  • 30-minute lessons
  • 60 minute (squad) lessons for children in the higher levels

The Adult Learn to Swim program aims to teach water confidence and fundamental swimming skills to staff, students and the surrounding community of La Trobe University. We offer classes for new, beginner and intermediate swimmers. Classes are run in short 5-6 week blocks so it is easy to make a commitment to learn how to swim or to further develop your technique.

This program includes:

  • experienced and qualified instructors
  • small class sizes
  • short program length
  • complimentary swimming assessment
  • free pool access for the duration of your enrollment
  • 30-minute lessons

Designed to achieve the goals of the Victorian Water Safety Certificate in Water Safety Knowledge, Swimming Competency, Continuous Survival Sequence and Rescue Skills. This program is specifically designed for school groups to improve water confidence and safety knowledge of their students through a series of lessons to the level required by the certificate and beyond. Bronze Medallion courses are also available for teachers and students.

This program includes:

  • personal water safety knowledge
  • swimming and survival stroke competency
  • how to survive in open water
  • rescue skills
  • lifejacket awareness and competency

All our programs are delivered by qualified swimming instructors with a range of experience as Swimming Teachers, Lifeguards, and Surf Lifesavers.

Sporting Schools funding may be used to participate in this program as the delivery of a sport package.
