University education and vocational aspirations: A study of first-year students in the humanities and social sciences

Dr Sara James, Mark Mallman, Sarah Midford

This project investigates the motivations and experiences of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University. It aims to discover why students choose to study a BA and what they hope to do with their degree (career aspirations). The research involves analysis of students' written reflective assignments, which are designed to facilitate 'deep' learning by allowing students to consider and write about the links between the subject material and their own experiences as learners.

This project is funded by a La Trobe University Research Grant.
