Artery 2023 School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment art competition - Terms and Conditions

Competition

  1. La Trobe University (ABN 64 804 735 113) (“La Trobe”) is conducting a competition called the Artery 2023 School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment Art Competition.(“Competition”).
  2. These terms and conditions apply to the Competition and by submitting your entry you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. Any entry that does not comply with these terms and conditions may be deemed invalid and ineligible to win a prize.
  3. The Competition is open from 1 June 2023 until midnight 31 October 2023 (“Competition Period”).  Any entry received after the expiry of the Competition Period will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries. La Trobe reserves the right to extend the Competition Period in its sole discretion.
  4. Entry

  5. Entry is open to La Trobe staff and currently enrolled postgraduate and honours students with a connection to the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environments (SABE).
  6. Entrants less than 18 years old must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian to enter. La Trobe may request photographic ID as proof of an entrant’s age and request written evidence of parental or guardian consent (if applicable). Any entrant that is unable or unwilling to provide the requested information will not be eligible to win a prize.
  7. To enter, entrants must register online at https://www.latrobe.edu.au/artery (“Competition Website”). The Competition Website, requires each entrant to submit their details by an online form and submit a piece of scientific imagery created by them along with a title, scientific and lay description of the image ("Entry").
  8. Entry into the Competition is free.
  9. Each entrant will only have three (3) entries in the Competition.
  10. Any entries deemed by La Trobe to be inappropriate or offensive will be ineligible to win a prize and excluded from the Competition.
  11. By submitting an entry, each entrant warrants to La Trobe that:
    1. if below 18 years of age, they have the permission of their parent or guardian to enter the Competition;
    2. all details provided with their entry are true and accurate;
    3. the entrant owns or has the right to submit their entry for this Competition;
    4. the entrant has obtained consent from any person in their entry to use their image for this Competition;
    5. their entry, and La Trobe’s use of their entry, will not:
      • infringe any person’s copyright or other intellectual property rights;
      • infringe any person’s privacy rights or any applicable privacy laws; or
      • breach any other laws.
  12. Each entrant grants to La Trobe a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, publish and communicate their entry, including a right to sublicense it to other parties (including posting on La Trobe’s social media accounts, in any format for the purpose of the Competition and for La Trobe’s marketing and promotional purposes.
  13. Prizes and Judging

  14. La Trobe will judge all valid entries within the Competition Period and select winners based on scientific merit, aesthetics and technical quality (with the exception of the People’s Choice Award category, which will be judged by the number of ‘likes’ it receives on the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment Facebook page) (“Prize Winners”).
  15. The Competition is a game of skill only and chance plays no part in determining winners.
  16. La Trobe will select up to 19 winners before the end of December 2023 (“Prize Winners”).
  17. The Prize Winners will be divided onto categories and consist of:
    1. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Photography (Animals, Plants and People);
    2. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Photography (Landscapes);
    3. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Photography (Under the Microscope);
    4. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Painting/Drawing;
    5. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Digital Art;
    6. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Video Outreach;
    7. 2 Prize Winners for the category of 3D Physical Art;
    8. 2 Prize Winners for the category of Audio;
    9. 1 Prize Winner for the category of Overall;
    10. 1 Prize Winner for the category of Overall Student (Honours & HDR); and
    11. 1 Prize Winner for the category of People's Choice.
  18. For each category, except for Overall and People's Choice, will have a 1st and 2nd Prize Winner. For the categories of Overall and People's Choice there will only be a 1st Prize Winner.
  19. The prizes will consist of:
    1. For 1st prize for categories a to h – $200
    2. For 2nd prize for categories a to h – $75
    3. For 1st prize for the category of Overall i to j – $250
    4. For 1st prize for the category of People’s Choice – $200
    5. Chance to feature in the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment Sciences 2024 Calendar (15 pictures to be chosen from all entries)
    6. Each Prize Winner will receive a School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment Certificate (19 Certificates in total)
    7. 1st Prize Winners for categories a to e and the Prize Winner for the Popular Choice category will receive a Poster Print of their winning entry (i.e. 8 posters in total)
  20. In addition to the prizes, all winning entries will be features throughout the SoLs’ outreach and marketing materials.
  21. The prizes cannot be redeemed for cash.
  22. The Prize Winners will be notified by email (to their La Trobe staff or student email account).
  23. Prize Winners will also be published on La Trobe’s website and social media accounts.
  24. The decisions of La Trobe regarding Prize Winners are final and will be binding on each entrant. No correspondence or communications will be entered into. If after reasonable efforts a Prize Winner cannot be contacted, cannot accept a prize or is deemed to be ineligible to enter the Competition, La Trobe reserves the right to select a different Prize Winner.
  25. If any event prevents or hinders the Competition or La Trobe’s ability to deliver a prize, La Trobe may in its absolute discretion cancel the Competition, select another Prize Winner or provide a similar prize of equivalent value.
  26. La Trobe may refuse to award a prize, or seek its recovery, in the event of the relevant entrant’s fraud, dishonesty, or non-entitlement under, or breach of, these terms and conditions.
  27. Exhibition

  28. Each entrant consents to La Trobe using any personal information supplied with their Entry alongside any imagery of their Entry for the 'Artery Exhibition' ("Exhibition").
  29. La Trobe endeavours to notify entrants whose work has been selected to be part of the Exhibition by email (to their La Trobe staff or student email account), along with details of the place, date and time of the Exhibition.
  30. All winning entries from the Prize Winners will be featured at the Exhibition.
  31. Personal information

  32. Each entrant consents to La Trobe using any personal information supplied with their Entry for the purposes of the Competition, including publishing the winner’s name on the Competition website and alongside any exhibition or publication of the Entry, and for La Trobe’s marketing and promotional purposes.
  33. For the avoidance of doubt, ‘marketing and promotional purposes’ includes displaying entries on La Trobe University’s School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment's Facebook Page with appropriate protection.
  34. La Trobe handles personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy and Procedure which is available at: www.latrobe.edu.au/policy.
  35. Disclaimer and liability

  36. La Trobe accepts no responsibility for invalid, lost or delayed entries, any incorrect or inaccurate information, any equipment or technical error, or for any defect in, theft, destruction, unauthorised access to or alteration of any Entry.
  37. To the extent permitted by law, La Trobe will not be liable for any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or indirect) to persons or property as a result of any person entering the Competition or accepting or using any prize, including without limitation non-receipt of any prize.
  38. To the extent permitted by law, all warranties in respect of the prize, whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise, are excluded. To the extent such warranties cannot be excluded by law, but liability can lawfully be limited, liability is limited at La Trobe’s option to replacing the prize or the cost of replacing the prize or acquiring an equivalent item.
  39. The Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, La Trobe’s social media channels, including Facebook and any questions, comments or complaints regarding the Competition should be directed to La Trobe.
  40. Each entrant releases Facebook from any and all liability for any loss, damage or injury arising out of or in relation to the Competition.
  41. This competition is conducted under, and must be construed by, the laws of the state of Victoria and the laws of Victoria govern the terms and conditions of this Competition.
