How is it paid?
The Student Equipment Bursary aims to provide a number of bursaries to domestic students who can demonstrate financial, educational and social disadvantage to enable them to purchase equipment for study purposes, such as a computer or course related equipment (e.g. mandatory tool kits for Health Science students). Priority will be given to students experiencing multiple disadvantage, such as those who are low socio-economic status (SES) and have a disability, are carers of a person with a disability or those from a refugee background. This bursary is funded through Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program which aims to ensure the Australian students from a low SES background who have the ability to study at university have the opportunity to do so.
Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent resident visa or a humanitarian visa.
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor course at La Trobe University in Semester 2, 2020
- Be able to demonstrate low SES
- Be able to demonstrate other educational disadvantage
- Have not received an Equipment Bursary previously
- Have not received a scholarship worth over $3000 per annum

The applications will be assessed on the basis of the applicant's personal statement which addresses the eligibility criteria, financial and educational disadvantage and on the basis of supplied documentation. Consideration will also be given to other scholarships the student is receiving (e.g. if a student is receiving scholarships worth more than $3000 per year). The funds will be paid to the value of the required equipment.
What do you need to include with your application?
At the end of the application form, in the ‘additional supporting documentation’ section, you must upload a brief statement (maximum 500 words) outlining what you intend to use the funds for eg. A computer, software, course specific tool kit etc. and how much the equipment costs.
